My EDM 310 Blog Assignments are now complete
This semester was a very enjoyable time and thank you for making the class enjoyable for 2 hours and 30 min. Also have a great summer.
The Last Post
The EDM 310 class was very enjoyable. some of the things that I learned include some of the Word and Excel Functions. One of the things that really helped during the class were the video lessons on the blog. the best thing about them is if you miss some thing all you have to do is rewind the video and watch the missed part again. I really enjoyed working on the web page and learning HTML code, the Igoogle home page and Rss feeds are things that I really liked and can see myself using after this class is over.
The Wiki
I believe that Wikipedia could not be trusted at any time as a sores for an academic paper. The fact that any one can change the info compounded with the fact that places like Wal Mart, Exxon, and others have altered their pages to make them selfs look better makes the site unreliable. Their is not any time when it could be used with out backing it up with a trusted sores.
iTunes U Stanford
This Video was about the fixed intelligence VS the Growth Intelligence mind set. the video talked about how people with that mind set tend to be more driven. then they did a study to see if they could teach the growth mind set and it showed that you could and that just teaching study skills does not work because the kid has no motivation to use them. later it showed how that mind set could be good in the corporate environment.
This video and what it talks about could be an important tool in a school. it could be used to get people to exercise their brands more by studying and show kids that their is some incentive to study and do their work. It also helps a kid to understand that mistakes happen and it is just best to get over them and move on.

iTunes U WGBH
The WGBH store has many different subjects. For all grads from K-12. some of the subjects include Engineering, life science, Arts, and many more. the videos are broken in to different grads and the subject that they cover. they also have a section with free public lectures.
The video that I watched was about trebuchet and some of the engineering principles of them. the video talks about a person who is designing and building one. it talks about early desires and some of the problems that he ran in to. It also talked about how the addition of wheels would fix the major problem. I thought that it was a very interesting video.

iTunes University
iTunes University is a cool program by Mac that has lots of uses in a modern class room. iTunes U is a program that allows teachers to pick digital content from Macs Library and use it in the class or load their own. The things range from Songs for a Music class, to speeches, and even lectures from the mornings class. The best thing about all of this is that all of the content is free to the student that would be using it. The content will work on any mac or PC but the best thing is that you can load the content on to your iPod and take it any were.
I think that iTunes U could have lots of uses in a class room. It could help people learn in a more convenient and fun way. The convenience comes from the fact that in stead of being relegated to one area that you have to watch a video or listen to a speech you can take and view it most any were. I believe that things like iTunes U are going to be an important thing in education in the next few years.

Ipods In The classroom
In The Fall of 2004 school year Duke University Started distributed Ipods to around 1600 incoming freshmen to see how effective a tool they could be in helping them learn. The Ipods were used mostly in Forane languages, English, and Music classes. It was used for saving lecture notes, listing to music and other digital audio , and even recording lectures from the class.
I think that it is a good thing to use Ipods as a tool for learning. I think things like podcast, lectures, and music for a class would all be used more if it was made as portable as an Ipod is. The biggest problem that I see is trying to approval to use the digital content on the Ipod.

Fischbowl 180 Days (Apirl 2007)
The post that I read was titled 180 days, and it talks about how so many days of school are not used for instruction during the 180 days of the school year. in the power point that was linked to the post it shows all the days that are not used for instruction. Some of the things include the first day to class rewards and sick days of the teacher, and students. the discussion started because a collage class taught by Barry Bachenheimer were discussing the shift happens video and how to incorporates technology in to the class room.
I agree that a large part of the school year is not used for educating the students. I think that events like pep rallies and movies are not used to teach the students. I think that people could find a way to add technology in to the curriculum. It was amazing to see how many days of the school year are not used to educate the students of the school.

Fischbowl: Tech Litericy
The best entry of September 2007 brought up the issue of technology in schools and some teachers being illiterate to it. In the entry he said that in todays society that it was unexceptionable for a teacher to not know any thing about computers. He even went so fare as to compare it to not being able to read. He went on to say that it was cheating the students for a teacher to not be willing to learn about technology.
I believe that his argument is true for the most part however I do not believe that it would be fair to form a view without hearing both sides of the argument. right now I think that all teachers should make an effort to better them selfs as a teacher. weather that is changing the way they teach, incorporating new things or learning about new things like computers or becoming more knowledgeable in their subject. If they are not trying to become better then I agree that the teacher is hurting the student.

International Class Blogs
The first blog that I looked at was called Gloucester Primary School Class Blogs. In the blogs It filled the parent in on what the class was doing in the class. Such as a field trip that they were planing to see a ship replica from the 16th century. the post had info on the cost of the trip, and what the kids needed to bring. The blog also had a place were the parents could log in and put feed back that would appear on the blog. I think that would be a good way for the teachers and parents to stay in touch. the last thing that it had was a place for students to put in their own post. However their were not very many kids who had any post. The school is located in London, I think because thats were the web site said it was

The next person is an English teacher in Japan. the blog has lots of assignments that the students must complete. I think that putting class work on the blog is a effective way for students to work on their computer and check the class blog. I however think that at some ages it is not piratical to think that a kid will get on the computer. the blog also has links of students who put entires in their blogs. I believe that this blog shows how the internet can be used as a tool to give the class work to do.

ACCESS
ACCESS is on-line based program that is run by the state Alabama. The program allows students from all across the state to take courses that they would other wise not be able to take. Most of the courses offered are advanced courses that most schools can not afford to fund. The program provides the opportunity for students to be taught by the best teachers in the state thew web conferees and, chating online. It also provides a student the opportunity to review the lesson in very little time.
ACCESS could be great for teachers because it could give them the opportunity to teach children from all parts of the state. the program would also help teachers to better understand computers and how they can be used in the classroom. I also believe that it would help to make better teachers throw observing their colleges, and adopting some of their teaching styles.

Blogs In the Classroom

The first blog that I looked at was called Mrs. Cassidy Classroom Blog. I think that it is being used as a fun way to inform parnts about what their kids are doing in class. the blog has post that talk about how thay are bringing in 100 things for the 100th day of class, and about how thay celabreated pancake day. the class is comprised of six year olds, and is located in Moose Jaw Canade. One of the cooler things in the blog are the student entries. thay are not very long but thay talk about things like: I like my wii, and how some one went to their granparents house and had a sleepover. the blogs are also used to communcate with kids all over the world.
The outher blog is called Room 36 Blog. It is done by a 3rd gread class in Los Angeles. the blog tells about the things that the class has done over the school year much like the outher blog. It however goes in to much greater detale, and also looks as if the students worked more on this blog than the first class blog. On the side it has links to outhers post and even some podcast about the stories that thay recorded. one of the more interesting post was when thay talked about their class trip to the California Science Center adn looked at all the exhibits.

"ALEX"
The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is a website ran by the state to provide teachers with lesson plans to teach their students. It provides lessons for the four core subjects. ALEX also provides lessons for non core subjects such as PE, art, and even drivers education. The website also has provides classes to students over the web that their school might not otherwise offer. The website also provides hyperlinks to other web sites that could help both students complete their work and teachers in the planing of their lessons.
The Alabama Learning Exchange is a tool that I will likely use as a teacher. I really like the web classes, and can see how it could be a beneficial tool to student were their school does not offer the class. I could see my self using the website to find lessons about the importunates of living a healthy, and phonically fit life. I really like how the lessons are sorted by age.

The Fisch Bowl
After watching the video from the Fisch Bowl blog I believe that technology is essential in are modern society. computers have gone past are professional life, and have made its way in to are personal lives. I was shocked to see how large web sites like myspace, and you tube have gotten in less then five years. It was very eye opening to watch the clip and see all the facts they presented. In the end the one major thing I took away from this was knowledge of computers is important in today's society.
